The 1930s did not get off to a great start. Following the Wall Street Crash in 1929, the US economy collapsed and the country began to spiral into what would be become known as The Great Depression. The decade would also see famines in the USSR, unemployment in Britain, rioting in Paris and the eventual rise of the Nazi Party and Adolf Hitler.

Construction of Sydney Harbour Bridge 1930s – The Sydney Harbour Bridge, often referred to as the “Old Coat Hanger”, began construction in 1926 and was completed in 1932, linking the southern & northern shores of Sydney, Australia.

Hotel New Yorker sugar model

Hotel New Yorker Sugar Model 1930 – Pierre Berard, chef-de-cuisine of the New Yorker Hotel creates a replica of the hotel made from sugar. The skyscraper took two and a half months to complete.

Bloody Thursday San Francisco riots

Bloody Thursday San Francisco 1934 – Thursday the 5th of July, 1934 would become known as Bloody Thursday. Following riots between striking longshoremen and sailors &The National Guard and police. By the end of the day, two men would be killed by gun wounds, another by injuries, whilst 31 others had been shot and an untold number, including police, clubbed, gassed, beaten and stoned.
